Weekly Words: Surround Yourself With Creatives
I’m excited to introduce you to a new weekly column called, Weekly Words. Someone recently mentioned on Instagram that they wanted me to write more personal blog posts and it really inspired me to start this new series. I’ve been writing online for seven years now and from time to time I’ve posted personal thoughts but there was never any consistency to it, I’m looking forward to changing that going forward. I spend a lot of time travelling and with travelling comes a lot of waiting, whether it be at airports, airplanes or driving within that city, I find most of my thoughts come to me at this time and I’m excited to have a place to put them now…
This week's weekly words comes from my recent trip to St.Lucia. Although it might have looked like I was on vacation this past week, I was actually on location helping shoot a music video for my boyfriend and his music partner. My boyfriend, Guillaume and his partner Conor have been working hard behind the scenes for over a year now producing music that will be released very soon under the name Flight School! If you've been following me for quite some time now, you probably already know that he's been a DJ for several years and he's finally taking the next steps within the music industry to further his career. It's incredibly exciting and an interesting journey to be apart of, I love watching and helping someone start a project from the bottom and build it into something with so many possibilities and directions.
This past week, they organized a crew of very talented people to travel to St.Luica to shoot their first music video. From videographers, directors, actors, singers and stylists, we had a really talented group of people out there with so many ambitions of what they all wanted this video to become. Although there were some stressful times throughout the week, there was so many highs when it everything came together. It was amazing to be surrounded with that many creative and hard working people, the energy from everyone was bouncing off each other and it was incredibly motivating to see the drive in everyones eyes. It made me realize how important it is for me to be surrounded by those types of people, I think working for yourself can be very difficult and at times you can feel very alone and confused. I've definitely had moments where I'm filled with so much doubt that it blocks me from advancing further and creating what I really want. Now I really understand how crucial it is to surround yourself with like minded people to create that fire inside you again. When you are around hard working creatives, the direction of the conversations change and you don't feel the need to have to separate work and life. Everything molds into one and you end up having very enlightening conversations that could spark a new or existing idea. After a week away with this crew, you kind of feel like anything is possible and I'm more than ready to keep going and build more in the next year than ever before.
