It’s been a while since my last visit to Italy – all the way back in high school, in fact. Definitely too long considering I live just an hour and a half flight away… but sometimes life has other plans.
I’m half Italian and half Chinese, but the Italian roots of my mom’s side of the family have run deeper throughout my life. But that’s not to say my dad’s Chinese traditions haven’t been embraced, and I’m truly appreciative of growing up in a setting that celebrated two such very diverse cultures.
Being back in Italy reminds me of everything I’ve been surrounded with my whole life: homemade pasta, fresh cannoli, (extra) strong espresso, and the warm kindness of Italian hospitality. I couldn’t help but feel a touch homesick walking up the stairs to our apartment with pastina wafting through the courtyard. It made me miss my nonno and nonna in Canada and brought back childhood memories spent cooking with them in the kitchen. I absolutely love this country and the people that make it so special; it feels like nothing has changed in decades and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
We shot these images right before the AIGNER runway show as the sun was about to set, just moments earlier having indulged in an unforgettable fig & riccotta gelato. This brilliant burgundy bag from AIGNER’s new Autumn/Winter collection was the ideal piece to wear at the show, its wine shade pairing perfectly against classic white and white.
