I must admit it has been a little bittersweet being back in Berlin these past two weeks. There is a part of me that loves getting back to routine, catching up with friends and not having to live out of a suitcase. However, there is another side that misses the daily travel and that feeling I had of being back in North America. It’s interesting to me how you can love two places for completely different reasons. In Europe I appreciate a certain way of life but when I’m back in North America I find myself loving the things that are complete opposite from that European lifestyle. I got right back into to driving instead of biking, grabbing coffee on the go instead of sitting down, shopping at big grocery stores instead of local markets. It was strange to appreciate the things I once hated on and wanted to escape from.
What I’ve grown to realize is that you can love both worlds and that one way of life isn’t necessarily correct. It was easy to hate on the things I was so accustomed to my whole life but I now understand how there can be pros and cons to just about everything in this world. You have to settle on what makes you happy at the end of the day. I’m so appreciative that I’ve had the experience of living somewhere else, it opened up so many new doors but it also helped me fall back in love to a place I came from.
